Bicyclist Struck By Minivan In Calverton: Cops
The man was thrown from his bicycle on impact, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A bicyclist was struck by a minivan in Riverhead Sunday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the accident took place at 1:42 p.m. at the intersection of Edwards Avenue and River Road in Calverton.
Upon arrival, police found Nelson Aaron of Newburgh, NY lying in the roadway, police said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Officers initially determined at the scene that a 2002 Nissan minivan operated by Julio David Duarte, 51, of Riverhead was heading north on Edwards Avenue and approaching the intersection of River Road, police said.
The bicyclist, Aaron, was also traveling north on Edwards Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto River Road, police said.

While making the left turn, Aaron was struck by Duarte, police said.
Aaron was thrown from his bicycle upon impact, police said.
Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps EMTs responded to the scene and transported Aaron to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.
Duarte remained at the scene and was later issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle without a license, police said.
The vehicle and bicycle were impounded for a safety check, police said.
