Police ID Body Found In Burning Car Outside Baiting Hollow Home

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames with the body inside — in the driveway of a home in Baiting Hollow Tuesday night, police say.

BAITING HOLLOW, NY — Police have tentatively identified a woman found in a car that was engulfed in flames in Baiting Hollow.

Riverhead Town Police said the person found was "tentatively identified" as Kimberly Pawlowski, 49, a resident at the address. A preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was non-criminal, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 10:34 p.m. on Sebastian Drive; both the police and the Riverhead Fire Department received reports of a vehicle fire at a residence. Upon arrival, police and fire officials found a vehicle in the driveway fully engulfed in flames; also burning was an exterior wall of the residence and a dumpster located nearby on the property, police said.

The fire was extinguished by Riverhead Fire Department — and that's when the body was discovered inside the vehicle, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded to the scene, as did the Suffolk County Police Department's arson unit, police said.

The body was removed from the scene and transported to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office for further examination, police said.
