Body Found In Riverhead Woods: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A body was found in the woods in Riverhead Friday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at 11 a.m., someone walking in the wooded area across from the county center on County Road 51 in Riverhead found a deceased male.

They notified law enforcement; Southampton Town Police patrol officers and detectives responded, officials said. Suffolk County homicide detectives, Suffolk County crime scene officials and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office also arrived at the scene, police said.

The deceased male was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination; his identity is unknown. At this time, no foul play is suspected and the investigation is continuing, police said.
