Boy, 13, Hit By Car Outside School, Critically Injured: Cops
He was trying to cross the street, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A 13-year old boy was critically injured after he was hit by a car as he was attempting to cross the street outside of the Pulaski Street Elementary School on Osborne Avenue in Riverhead, police said.
The boy was struck at 2:59 p.m., said Riverhead Police Detective Mark Stromski.
The boy was struck by a Toyota Camry, driven by Nadia B. Altman, 44, of Riverhead, who was traveling north on Osborne Avenue, police said. The driver was on scene and was not injured; no charges were filed, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division responded to the scene; it was determined that the boy attempted to cross the road from the east side of Osborne Avenue when he was struck, police said.

Riverhead Fire Department EMS attended to the boy at the scene; he was later transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and later flown to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries sustained in the accident, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a motor vehicle safety check.
