Candle Vigil Held To Honor Shoreham Wading River Student

SWR football player honored day after he dies

On the afternoon Thursday October 2nd, a crowd of appoximatly 1000 took to the field at Shoreham Wading River High School. The event a somber one compared to what usually goes on at the football field. The guest many of which were members of the football team and their relatives as well as community members and members of rivaling teams all gathered to pay their respects by way of Candle light vigil to a young man whos life tragically ended the day before .

Tom Cuntinella a Junior at the school tragically lost his life from a brain injury during a football game on October 1st. As a way of paying tribute to him these folks gathered on the Turf he practiced and played on as well as in the stands. At 50 yard line candlelight was displayed in the image of the numbers 54, Thomas’s football number.

The tributes that night were not isolated Shoreham Wading River though. Members of other teams also held moments of silence and paid tribute to Tom. At the longwood VS. Floyd game both teams bowed their heads and held a moment of silence before they went head to head. The loss of Tom was definately not just a loss to Shoreham Wading River but Long Island High School Football as a whole .
