AQUEBOGUE, NY — A local animal rescue is fundraising to give a dog the chance at a life without pain.

A GoFundMe page, "Help Hatchie Have A Pain-Free Life," was created by Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations for The League, which has locations in Aquebogue and Peconic.

"Hatchie was surrendered to the local emergency vet because his owners could not afford the surgery he needs to live a pain-free life," Stroup wrote.

The vet had Hatchie taken to The League. Hatchie, Stroup said, is just 10 months old and is now being cared for by the rescue.

"He is in desperate need of bilateral patellar tendon repair," she said. "The cost of this surgery with the shelter's discount is going to be around $5,000. Hatchie cannot continue without this. Please help us get him what he needs so he can walk, run and play like a normal dog."

He will also need months of rehab after the surgery is completed, she said.
