Don't Miss: 'Pint For A Pint' Blood Drive At Riverhead Cider House

RIVERHEAD, NY — A "Pint for a Pint" blood drive will take place at the Riverhead Cider House Thursday, and all donors will receive a voucher for a free or discounted beverage.
The New York Blood Center will be hosting the blood drive with Riverhead Cider House on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Riverhead Cider House is a long-time partner of NYBC since 2017, offering coupons for a pint of beer throughout the year for donors at local blood drives.
Riverhead Cider House is part of NYBC’s second annual "Pint for a Pint" campaign this summer, where all presenting blood donors will receive a voucher to redeem a free or discounted beverage at their local participating establishment through Sunday, September 10. The vouchers are redeemable until October 3.

The annual campaign seeks to motivate blood donors to come out in the summer months; August is a historically challenging time for the blood supply — schools are closed and families go on vacation.
NYBC encourages blood donors to "take advantage of this fun summer campaign that allows them to save lives and support local businesses."

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time.

The Riverhead Cider House is located at 2711 Sound Avenue in Calverton.
According to NYBC, it only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion, NYBC added.
Those in need include cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.
