Driver In Crash That Killed Elderly Woman Used False Name: Cops
After the crash, she gave the name of her relative, who was not involved, police said.
WADING RIVER, NY — The driver involved in a crash that killed an elderly Calverton woman gave authorities a false name, police said. According to Suffolk County police, Tara Demauro, 48, of Rocky Point, driving a Jeep that struck a Nissan on Route 25A Monday morning. Following the crash, Demauro provided officers with the name of a relative who was not involved, police said.
Demauro was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, making a punishable false written statement, and driving with a suspended license, police said. She was released on a desk appearance ticket and is due to appear at the First District Court in Central Islip on a later date, police said.
Rose Mastrodomenico, 90, of Calverton, was driving the Nissan. After the crash, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Demauro was also transported to Stony Brook University for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said Mastrodomenico was attempting to enter a parking lot when Demauro hit her vehicle at 9:48 a.m.
