Driver Seriously Injured In Crash With Public Works Truck

The two-vehicle crash took place Thursday morning, police say.

SHOREHAM, NY — A man was seriously injured when his vehicle hit a public works truck in Shoreham Thursday morning, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the 28-year-old driver, of Rocky Point, was heading south around 5:50 a.m. on William Floyd Parkway in a 2012 Subaru when his vehicle hit the back of a 2015 Ford pickup truck.

The truck, which had hazard and flashing yellow lights activated, was traveling slowly, partially in the left lane, as part of weed mitigation by Suffolk County Department of Public Works employees, police said.

The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The pickup’s driver and passenger were not hurt, police said.

No charges were filed. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
