Drunk Motorcyclist Hits Pedestrian: Cops

The pedestrian was airlifted, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A drunk motorcyclist struck and injured a pedestrian in Riverhead Monday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the crash took place at 8:19 p.m. on West Main Street and Griffing Avenue; Clarence W. Trent, 44, was riding a westbound 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle and struck 35-year-old Jacinto Anastacio Damian-Pu, who was walking in the pedestrian crosswalk on West Main Street.

Damian-Pu, of Flanders, suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene by Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance EMTs and then airlifted by a Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Trent, of Mastic, was arrested at the scene, charged with DWI and transported to the Riverhead Police Department for processing. He was held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division is investigating; any witnesses are asked to contact detectives at 631-727-4500.
