UPDATE: Drunk Man Struck By LIRR Train in Riverhead Sustained 'Non-Life Threatening Injuries': MTA

The man was lying intoxicated on the tracks, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY - UPDATE: The man struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in Riverhead Tuesday was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with "non-life threatening injuries," according to the MTA.

MTA spokesperson Nancy Gamerman told Patch that the accident took place when an "unauthorized person on the tracks", a man in his 40s, was struck by the train east of the Mill Road crossing and west of the Riverhead LIRR station.

He was medevaced to Stony Brook University Hosptial with an abrasion to his left shoulder, she said. "He was grazed by the train," she said.

No one else was injured, she said.

The investigation is ongoing, Gamerman said.

Original story: A drunk pedestrian was hit by a Long Island Rail Road train in Riverhead Tuesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the accident took place at 2:47 p.m. when a man, who was lying intoxicated on the tracks, was hit by a LIRR westbound train near the intersection of Mill Road, police said.

The subject was transported to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment, police said. MTA Police responded to the scene to complete the investigation, police said.
