DWI Enforcement Increased For Graduation Week: Police

Police are urging graduates to choose a designated driver, wear seat belts, and make wise choices.

RIVERHEAD, NY — With graduation weekend unfolding on the East End, local police and officials are joining together to make sure celebrations end happily, without tragedy — and teens make it home safely to their families.

To that end, as part of the Suffolk County District Attorney's DWI Task Force Initiative, the Riverhead Police Department and surrounding agencies sent out a release Friday to remind all motorists to drive safely and comply with all vehicle and traffic laws both for graduation week and the upcoming summer season.

"Enforcement has been and will continue to be increased this week and throughout the summer season," police said. "Remember to make appropriate decisions and assign a designated driver, call for a ride or make arrangements to stay at a location if you have been drinking. Please make certain that all passengers in your vehicle wear their seat belts."
