East Hampton Cracking Down On Beach Capacity: What To Expect
East Hampton Town is cracking down and enforcing social distancing protocols during the coronavirus pandemic. Here's what to expect.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — In the "summer like no other," East Hampton Town is cracking down on enforcement on social distancing and coronavirus capacity restrictions as beaches, including Ditch Plains in Montauk and Atlantic Avenue in Amagansett, reach capacity.
Beachgoers should expect closures to occur on busy summer weekends, Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said in a release Thursday.
Additional parking restrictions have been put in place in areas near beach accesses, such as in downtown Montauk, in order to curtail crowds on the beaches, he added.

East Hampton town’s lifeguard team, marine patrol, recreation department “beach ambassadors,” and police will continue working together to ensure safety protocols — such as the requirement to wear masks when entering and exiting the beach and when within proximity to others — are followed.
Coordinated efforts will be organized to avoid beach overcrowding and closures will be enacted when needed, he said.
