Elbow East, Longtime North Fork Dining Destination, On Market
After 32 years, owner says he hopes to retire in Florida. "I'd rather die walking the beach down there than mopping the floor."

SOUTHOLD, NY — Another iconic longtime North Fork eatery, known for its marinated steaks, surf and turf and sunset views, is on the market.
Elbow East, located at 50 North Sea Drive in Southold, just steps from Kenney's beach, is listed with Town & Country Real Estate for $1,495,000.
Owner Billy Berliner said the restaurant has been a staple on the North Fork for 32 years — and the time has come for his next chapter. "I'm going to be 68 years old. What do I have left? Statistically, I have eight years left, unless I'm very lucky."

Berliner, who has a condo in Florida, added: "I'd rather die walking the beach down there than mopping the floor."
Still, he said: "It was a very tough decision. I love this business. I love this place. I love my customers and I love the North Fork."

Born at Eastern Long Island Hospital, Berliner said his roots run deep. "But at some point, I'd like to put my feet up," he said.
Elbow East follows in the step of longtime family businesses in the area that have sold in recent years including Claudio's, Sound View, Skipper's, and Orient by the Sea. "Life goes on," Berliner said.
There's still time to tuck into a marinated steak and shoot the breeze with regulars: Berliner said he's had no offers yet and could well remain in business for the next few years until a buyer is found.
"Southold, well-established restaurant in business 32 years, popular destination for tourists and locals. Close to Long Island Sound Beach. A great location to make your mark in the restaurant business on the North Fork," the Town & Country Real Estate listing said. The 2,100 square foot space is sited on 0.53 acres.
