RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead children opened their hearts to veterans for Valentine's Day.

The Roanoke Avenue Elementary School Student Council presented Staff Sergeant Chris Clay, a member of the 106th Rescue Wing of the Air National Guard in Westhampton Beach, with hundreds of Valentine’s Day cards on Feb. 10. All of the handmade cards will be distributed to Clay’s fellow airmen and vets as a gesture of thanks, the district said.

While accepting the cards, Clay answered questions about his service, the district added.
