EEDA is pleased to offer parents of developmentally disabled teenagers this valuable workshop in which Regina Brandow, ESQ will guide families step by step through the 17-A Guardianship application for the New York State Surrogate Court.
In NY State, everyone who turns 18 is automatically assumed to be legally competent to make decisions for themselves. Guardianship is a process by which someone is appointed by a court to make decisions for a person who is unable to make decisions for themselves. Guardianship allows parents of individuals with developmental disabilities to continue making decisions that they made prior to their child turning 18.
