Fire Rips Through Abandoned Baiting Hollow Home
No one was in the structure at the time of the fire, police say.
BAITING HOLLOW, NY — Fire ripped through an abandoned home in Baiting Hollow early Thursday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at a Sound Avenue residence at 1:44 a.m. When police and firefighters arrived, they saw the residence — an unoccupied, abandoned structure that was set back off the roadway in a heavily wooded area — fully engulfed by fire, police said.
No one was located house or at the scene, police said.

The Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire without further incident and without any reported injuries, police said.
The Riverhead fire marshal's office, Riverhead Police Department's detective division, and Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad detectives also responded to the scene for further investigation, police said.
