Frozen Fire Suppression System Sparks Flooding In Town Hall

Southold Town Hall will be closed Monday due to a frozen suppression system that caused massive flooding in the building.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Southold Town Hall will be closed Monday due to a frozen fire suppression system that caused massive flooding in the entire east side of the building Sunday, according to Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, all offices located within Town Hall, located at 53095 Route 25, Southold, will be closed on Monday, January 8, 2018," a release from Russell's office said. "The offices include the town clerk’s office, assessors, engineers and the tax receiver’s offices. All other town facilities and offices will be open during regular business hours."

Justice court is also closed Monday.

The supervisor’s office will be closed; however, Russell can be reached at (631)300-5349.

Russell said while the town doesn't yet have an estimate of the cost for repairs yet, "the east side of the building is unusable. We had about 2 inches of water on the floor and since it came from the fire suppression system located over the ceiling, we had damage in the ceiling, with tiles becoming waterlogged and falling," he said.

A company has been contacted to assist in the clean up so the town can reopen the building as quickly as possible, he added.
