Gas Station Robbed At Gunpoint: Cops

He gestured as though he had a handgun in his pocket and stole money from an employee and the cash register, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead gas station was robbed at gunpoint Saturday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a report came in at 10:15 p.m. regarding a robbery at the Speedway gas station, located on Old Country Rd.

An employee said an unknown male wearing a dark hoodie and with his face covered entered the gas station and gestured as though he had a handgun in his pocket, police said. He then removed an unknown amount of U.S. currency from the employee and the cash register and ran from the gas station, heading north, police said.

Patrol units arrived on the scene shortly after and a search of the area was conducted with the assistance from the Riverhead Police Department's K-9 unit, but no one has been found, police said.

The robber is described as being about 5'8" tall with a medium build, police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
