Gunman Nabbed After Shooting: Police

BREAKING: The man was also charged with resisting arrest, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A gunman wanted for a shooting in Riverhead has been caught, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Shawn D. James, 29, was arrested on Wednesday at 5:12 p.m. and charged with first degree assault, a felony.

The charged stemmed from an ongoing investigation of a shooting that occurred in Riverhead on Monday, police said; James was also charged with resisting arrest, police said.

James was also wanted on an active arrest warrant for menacing issued by Riverhead Town Justice Court and by New York State Parole for violating his parole conditions, police said.

James was transported to Riverhead Police headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
