Gunshots Fired During Riverhead Home Invasion: Cops
The incident does not appear to be random, the occupants of the home appear to be the intended target, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — Gunshots were fired during a Riverhead home invasion early Sunday, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, on Sunday at 3:16 a.m., police received a report of gunfire from inside a home in a Doctors Path apartment complex.
It was originally reported that at least two people inside the apartment were suffering from gunshots wounds, police said. Officers located several individuals within and around the area of the apartment, and four people were transported to area hospitals with various injuries; two of the people found were not injured, police said.

A preliminary investigation conducted at the scene revealed that two armed subjects entered the apartment and multiple shots were fired from a long gun; however, none of the reported injuries appeared to be related to the gunfire, police said. A struggle between the intruders and the occupants of the apartment ensued and the injuries were sustained during that altercation, police said.
Riverhead Fire Department responded to the scene as well as Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Flanders Ambulance, Westhampton Beach War Memorial Ambulance and Suffolk County aviation, police said.
