Heartbroken Senior Dog, Owner In Nursing Home, Needs Family

Can you give Patches a forever home for the new year?

PECONIC, NY — Her eyes seem to ache with loss, with the knowledge that her she'll never see her loving owner again.

Patches, according to Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic, is a 14 year old dog, about the size of a beagle.

"Her owner and best friend has ended up in a nursing home," she said.

Patches was boarded at an animal hospital for 2 weeks "in the hope that he would return home and be able to take Patches back — but that is not going to happen," Stroup said.

Patches has lived with a cat and been around children and many other dogs, she said. "Patches is good with everyone and everything. She is gentle and sweet," she said. "Help us get her out of the shelter quickly."
