Home, Vehicles Severely Damaged In New Year's Day Fire: Cops

The fire was primarily contained to the garage, police say.

JAMESPORT, NY — Firefighters rushed to a New Year's blaze at a Jamesport home, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, the structure fire broke out at the Pier Ave. home on New Year's Day at 7:19 p.m.

Responding patrol units found a fire that was primarily contained to the garage area of a residence at the location, police said.

The Jamesport Fire Department responded and was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of Riverhead, Mattituck and Cutchogue Fire Departments, police said.

The Riverhead Town fire marshal's office responded to the scene and is investigating; however, the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police said.

The residence and several vehicles sustained heavy damage, police said.
