Homeless Man Charged In Gas Station Assault: Police
The assault took place at a Riverhead Speedway, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A homeless man was arrested after an assault at a Riverhead gas station Tuesday night, police said.
According to the Riverhead Police Department, William Duff, 56, who is undomiciled, was arrested on Wednesday at 4:30 a.m. after an incident that took place at Speedway Gas on Old Country Road.
On Tuesday at 10:15 p.m., Riverhead Police said they received a call regarding a dispute at the gas station. When they arrived, police said they found a man who had a laceration on his hand. The man gave a description of another man who had caused the laceration; the Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and asked to help in the investigation, police said.

Duff was located later by patrol units and positively identified by the victim; he was arrested and charged with second degree assault, a felony, police said. He was taken to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
The injured man was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injury, police said.
