Kitten Survives 90-Mile Ride Trapped Under Car

The lucky kitten is now safe at the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton.

RIVERHEAD, NY — If cats have nine lives, a tiny kitten just used up one of his — after he survived a 90-mile ride trapped under a car.

The kitten, later named Honda, sought refuge under a vehicle only to travel many miles before being rescued, Pam Green, executive director of the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton.

The driver traveled 90 miles before hearing cries coming from under the vehicle, she said.

"The Good Samaritan tried to rescue the kitten but was unable to free him. He decided the only thing to do was to take the car to Honda where they literally took the car apart to get the kitten out. None the worse for wear, Honda emerged hungry but unscathed and is now thriving at the Kent Animal Shelter," Green said.

To donate and help other animals in crisis situations, Green said individuals can visit the shelter, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2259 River Road in Calverton, call 631-727-5731, go to the Kent Animal Shelter website, or click here.
