Vacation Cottages Opening At Wildwood, Heckscher State Parks

WADING RIVER, NY — It's a dream come true for nature lovers and their less than enthusiastic sidekicks: Camping out with a twist — soaking up the glory of the great outdoors plus all the comforts of home in brand-new, cozy cottages.

New York State Andrew Cuomo announced this week that Long Island's first state vacation cottages at Wildwood State Park, located on the Long Island Sound in Wading River, are set to open Memorial Day weekend.

In addition, select cottages at Heckscher State Park on the Great South Bay in East Islip are now available to book online and will be open in time for the July 4th holiday weekend.

Starting Memorial Day weekend, seven cottages unveiled at Wildwood State Park will feature both one-and-two-bedroom units, as well as a bathroom, kitchenette, screened porch and select furnishings. Three additional cabins will be completed and available for rental in time for the July 4th weekend, state officials said.

The cabins are available to rent for a week at a time during the peak season and later, for a two night minimum. Prices range from $175 to $25o per night.

The cabins come stocked with a queen sized bed and one futon, flatware, glasses, coffee mugs, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, stove/ovens, refrigerator, pots and pans, cooking utensils, cutting board with knives, can and bottle openers, toilet paper and dish soap. There are even outdoor wood fire pits adjacent to the cottages.

In addition, five full service cottages at Hecksher State Park are now online; of the first cottages online, four are one-bedroom units and one is a two-bedroom unit with a loft. Each will feature a kitchenette, bathroom and screened in porch furnished with a sleep sofa, dining table and chairs, Adirondack chairs, stove, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, toaster and basic kitchen necessities. A total of 15 cottages are slated for construction at Heckscher State Park, with the remainder to be completed by spring, 2019.

The cottages at both Wildwood will be available for public rental every spring and through the fall.
