RIVERHEAD, NY — A woman was stabbed on New Year's Eve at a Riverhead apartment complex, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the stabbing took place at the River Pointe apartments on East Main Street at about 11:27 p.m.
Officers found a 44-year-old female resident of the complex in one of the buildings with what appeared to be a stab wound to the chest, police said. She was uncooperative with officers at the scene and appeared to be under the influence, police said.

Bystanders in the area reported that a female had fled the area on foot and was last seen running west on East Main Street, police said.
A search of the area for the suspect was conducted by numerous officers in the area along with the assistance of a K9 unit; however, the suspect was not found, police said.

The injured woman was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Ambulance Corps for treatment of her wound, which was non-life threatening, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was contacted and responded to the scene, police said. The investigation is active and anyone with information is asked to contact Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
