Lost Dog, Winky, Found Safe in Calverton
The happy ending was good news for the family of the newly adopted shelter dog who ran off before seeing her new home Wednesday.

RIVERHEAD, NY - It was good news in Calverton Thursday morning as a lost dog, Winky, was located safe and sound.
"Winky has been found," said a post on the North Fork Animal Welfare League's Facebook page. "An early morning search with her friend Missy was the trick. Our deepest thanks to everyone who helped in the search and spreading the alert. Happy to have her back home."
According to Eileen Kreiling, manager of the North Fork Animal Welfare League's Shelter in Riverhead, Winky, who lived at the shelter for about a year, was just adopted and on her way home Wednesday, wearing a collar and leash, when she ran off, she said.

"They opened to door to get her out of the backseat and she bolted," Kreiling said. "She got scared and she ran."
Winky was wearing an Adopt Love collar and dragging a red leash with hearts on it, Kreiling said; she is also microchipped and the chip is registered. Winky is also missing her right eye.
