Lowe's Opens in Riverhead

The home improvement store officially opened at 6 a.m. Thursday morning, though the grand opening will be held in the next week.

The Lowe's Home Improvement store on Route 58 officially opened on Thursday morning, ending a nearly year-long build of the roughly 104,000-square-foot store.

Lowe's had , but moved up the official opening one day. The grand opening celebration will be held next week, said a worker at the store.

The store, located at the site of the former Suffolk Life building and across the street from The Home Depot, broke ground in early spring. In , Lowe's announced it would be closing 20 stores in 15 states and canceling other stores being built, . The Riverhead location was spared from the cuts, though the opening date was pushed back from December.

A new was built in front of the building on Route 58 in early December and is now operational.
