Major Heroin, Cocaine Bust After Routine Traffic Stop: Police

One passenger was found with 49 glassine packages of heroin, 47 grams of crack, 7.8 grams of cocaine, and Suboxone, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - A routine traffic stop lead to a major drug bust in Southampton Tuesday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the arrests took place at 6:45 p.m. when members of the Southampton Town Police Community Response Unit stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.

During the traffic stop the officers observed a driver and two passengers in the vehicle and noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside, police said.

Officers interviewed the subjects and found the front passenger, Terrence Smith, 35, of Greenport, in possession of marijuana, police said.

The officers placed Smith under arrest and found him to be in possession of a quantity of heroin, concentrated cannibis, prescription narcotics, packaging materials commonly used for the sale of narcotics, and a large quantity of currency, police said.

The rear passenger, Aubrey Fauvell-Thomas, 35, of Flanders, was interviewed and was found to be in possession of 49 glassine envelopes containing heroin, 7.8 grams of powder cocaine, 47 grams of crack cocaine and a quatity of Suboxone, a digitial scale, and cash, police said.

The driver, 47-year-old Scott Wilcox, of Hampton Bays, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and a missing license plate, police said.

Wilcox was also found to have a bench warrant from Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

According to police, Aubrey Fauvell-Thomas was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, intent to sell, a felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance/narcotic, a felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a felony, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, a violation.

Terrence Smith was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, intent to sell, a felony, four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree, a misdemeanor, two counts of possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, a violation, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

All of those arrested were held overnight for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
