Man Caught With Heroin After Traffic Stop: Cops

He was also driving with a suspended license, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested after he was found with heroin and driving with a suspended license, police said.

According to New York State Police, the incident took place on May 15 at 6:29 p.m. when James Scagel, 39, was driving on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays and was stopped for a vehicle and traffic violation.

Upon further investigation, Scagel was found to be in possession of heroin and driving with a suspended license; he was arrested and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.

He was released on an appearance ticket to Southampton Justice Court, police said.
