Man Caught Trying To Use Counterfeit Cash: Cops

He had counterfeit bills, marijuana — and metal knuckles, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Shirley man was arrested after he was caught trying to spend counterfeit money, police said.

Riverhead Police were contacted on Thursday at 1:58 p.m. by West Marine employees who told them that a man who passed counterfeit money the day before had returned to the store, police said.

When police arrived, the man had left the store after attempting to use counterfeit money again, police said.

A responding officer stopped him in the shopping center and identified him as Jason Scott, 28; he was found with six counterfeit $50 bills, marijuana, and metal knuckles, police said.

Scott was placed under arrest and charged with first degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

He was transported to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment; he was arraigned on Friday in Riverhead Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, police said.
