Man Charged In Long Island Shooting Death: Police

A man was shot outside his Moriches home on Friday, police say.

MORICHES, NY — A Flanders man was arrested and charged with shooting and killing a Moriches resident outside his home on Friday, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, on Wednesday, homicide squad detectives arrested Michael Gilbert, 28, of Riverside Avenue, and charged him with second-degree murder. He will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

The incident took place at Tall Oaks Circle in Moriches on Friday at 1 a.m. when Tyrell Durham, 37, was shot outside his house, police said. Durham was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said.
