Man Charged With Striking, Breaking Jaw Of 71-Year-Old: Police

He's facing a felony assault charge, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with hitting a 71-year-old and breaking his jaw, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a report came in Tuesday at 12:25 a.m. about a physical dispute that occurred at a mobile home park on Forge Road in late June, which resulted in a "significant injury" to the man.

During an investigation, detectives determined that the man, of Riverhead, was struck in the face, resulting in a broken jaw that required medical attention, including jaw and facial surgery, police said.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Jermaine Stevens, 47, also of Riverhead, police said. Stevens was charged with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, and held for arraignment, police said.
