Man Dies After Being Struck By Car: Cops
Tragedy struck when a man died after being hit by a car Saturday night, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man died after being hit by a car in Riverhead Saturday night, police said.
Police have not yet released the man's name.
According to Riverhead Town Police, at 8:53 p.m., a 911 call came in regarding the accident involving a pedestrian and car on West Main Street.

Riverhead Police Patrol responded to the scene; upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying on the shoulder of New York State Route 25, or West Main Street.
Officers quickly determined that the man had sustained serious injuries and was not breathing, and CPR was started at the scene, police said.

Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene, treated and transported the man, who had suffered severe injuries to his head and body, to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said. He was subsequently transported to Southside Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's detective division responded to the scene. An initial investigation determined that a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was heading east on West Main Street in the area of #971, police said.
The Chevrolet struck the pedestrian, who entered the eastbound lane of travel in front of the vehicle, police said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and no criminal charges have been filed, police said.
The New York State Police's accident reconstruction unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation, police said.
