Man Dies In Fiery LI Rollover Crash: Police
One man was able to get out before the vehicle burst into flames — but the driver was trapped inside, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A man died in a fiery rollover crash in Riverhead Monday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the crash took place at 9:05 a.m. on Sound Avenue, about a quarter-mile west of Park Road. A gray 2000 Chevrolet pickup towing an enclosed trailer overturned and was fully engulfed in flames with the driver, Salvatore Pinello, trapped inside, police said. Pinello succumbed to his injuries and was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, police said.
A passenger, Salvatore Martino, was able to get out of the vehicle before it burst into flames, police said.

The Riverhead Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, police said. The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded, as did the New York State Police Department's accident reconstruction team and the Suffolk County Police Department's emergency services division, police said.
