Man Drove While Intoxicated With 14-Year-Old In Vehicle: Riverhead PD

He was arrested Sunday night, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested Sunday night after he was found to be driving while intoxicated with a teenager in the car in Riverhead, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place at 9 p.m. on Pulaski Street near Columbus Avenue. An officer conducted a traffic stop of a white 2009 Dodge Nitro; the driver, Jose Molina Umanzoa was found to be driving while intoxicated with the 14-year-old in the passenger seat, police said.

Molina Umanzoa, who was stopped initially for failing to comply with commands of an officer directing traffic, was arrested and transported to Riverhead Police headquarters, where he was charged with DWI under Leandra's Law, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He was held for morning arraignment; the teen was turned over to their mother, police said.
