Man Entrapped In Farm Machinery At Jamesport Nursery: Cops

He was unconscious and not breathing, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man became entrapped in a piece of farm machinery at a nursery in Jamesport Saturday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, at 9:02 a.m., a 911 call came in about a man entrapped in the machinery at the Shade Trees Nursery, located on Herricks Lane. Patrol officers found a man with his upper body and right arm trapped in an irrigation hose reel; he was unconscious and not breathing, police said.

Officers on scene, with the assistance of other employees, were able to free the man from the machinery and then perform CPR, police said.

The Jamesport Fire Department and Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded; Riverhead EMS continued CPR efforts and were able to find a pulse on the man, who was then transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.

He is in stable but serious condition, police said.

The Riverhead Town Police Department's detective division also responded; the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, was notified and responded to the scene, police said.
