Man Found Asleep At The Wheel In Road With Loaded Gun, Cannabis: PD

He was arrested Thursday night, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was found asleep at the wheel with a loaded handgun and cannabis in his car Thursday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, at 6:44 p.m., a call came in regarding a blue, two-door 2005 Toyota sedan stopped in the roadway on Main Road, with the driver appearing to be asleep at the wheel; the vehicle was found impeding traffic in the roadway, police said.

Gregory M. Trent, 24, was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs; he was also found to be in possession of a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine and a quantity of cannabis, police said.

Trent was arrested and charged with one count of driving under the influence of drugs; one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and unlawful possession of cannabis, police said.

The Toyota was impounded and Trent was transported to the Riverhead Police Department, police said.
