Man Found With Heroin, Crack Cocaine In Riverhead: Police

BREAKING: The man is facing felony charges, including intent to sell, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Brookhaven man was arrested after an investigation by the East End Drug Task Force, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, on Monday, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office East End Drug Task Force arrested Maurice A. Pittman, 38. Pittman was found to be in possession of heroin and crack cocaine. He was charged with third degree of criminal sale of a controlled substance, narcotic drug, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, narcotic drug, all felonies, police said.

Pittman was arrested after a short term investigation into drug sales activity in the area of the Riverhead Commons shopping center, located at 715 E. Main St., police said. The East End Drug Task Force responded to specific complaints of open drug sales activity at that location, police said.

Pittman was held overnight in the Riverhead Town Police headquarters and is slated to be arraigned at Riverhead Town Justice Court Tuesday, police said.

The East End Drug Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit funded by the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota. The task force includes detectives, police officers and law enforcement personnel from the New York State Police, Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Suffolk County Department of Probation, Southampton Town Police Department, Riverhead Police Department, East Hampton Town Police Department, Southampton Village Police Department, Southold Town Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Agency, Homeland Security and Suffolk County District Attorney investigators.
