Man Hits Victim in Face With Pipe in Riverhead Attack: Police
BREAKING: The attack on a man who was just leaving work took place on West Main Street early Friday morning, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Flanders man was charged with hitting another man in the face with a pipe in Riverhead early Friday morning, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the assault took place at 2:40 a.m. in the 1st Street parking lot in the rear of a West Main Street building.
Police arrived to find a group of men detaining another man in the parking lot, authorities said.

Oto Paredes, 29, of Flanders, had gotten into an altercation with a separate group of men, police said.
During that altercation, Paredes armed himself with a section of PVC pipe and struck another Wading River man, 37, in the face, police said.

Paredes was arrested, charged with second degree assault, a felony, and second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, police said; he was taken to Riverhead Police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
The victim had been leaving work and was not involved in the original altercation; he was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.
