Man Robbed, Beaten In Riverhead: Police
A group of five or six men approached him, robbed him of his wallet and cell phone, then struck him repeatedly, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was beaten and robbed on Route 58 in Riverhead early Sunday morning, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 6:30 a.m. near Popeye's Chicken; a man, 34, was walking back home from the nearby 7-Eleven at around midnight when he was approached by a group of five to six males who demanded cash from him, authorities said.
When he refused, they began to hit him repeatedly on the face and body and stole his cell phone and wallet, police said.

The group ran off in a northwesterly direction, police said.
The man walked to his nearby home, and told police that he "passed out." After he regained consciousness, he walked back to the 7-Eleven to ask for help; police responded and found him with wounds on his face, police said.

He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
