Man Robbed At Knifepoint, Struck In Head: Cops

Men from Sag Harbor and Riverhead were charged in the robbery, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was robbed at knifepoint in Riverhead on Thursday, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, a report came in regarding a prior robbery that took place in the area of 3rd Street in Riverhead. A man, 32, said he had been standing near his residence when he was approached by two men who displayed a knife and began striking him about the head while demanding his property, police said.

The men removed a cell phone and cash before leaving the area on foot; during a canvass of the area, two men matching the description given by the man who'd been robbed were located, police said. Property belonging to the man was recovered at the scene and the men were arrested and transported to Riverhead Police Department headquarters, police said.

Victorino Reynosa, 31, from Sag Harbor, and Wilber Estuardo Garrido Veliz, 31, from Riverhead, were each charged with one count of first degree robbery; Reynosa was also charged with one count of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance when he was found to be in possession of narcotics, police said.

Both men were processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
