Man Shot At By Gunman While Driving In Hamptons: Police

The gunman was arrested and held without bail, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man was arrested after he shot at a motorist who was driving in Southampton Sunday morning, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, the incident took place at 10:06 a.m.; a 911 call came in from a man saying he had been shot at while driving east on Hillcrest Avenue, police said.

Police set up a perimeter and at 10:28 a.m., Tyhiem L. Hopson, 37, was arrested and taken into custody on Windward Way without incident, police said.

Police recovered a 9 mm handgun that was reportedly used in the incident, police said. A K-9 unit from the New York State Police also assisted in the investigation; no injuries were reported, police said.

Hopson was arraigned Monday at 9:35 a.m. in Southampton Village Justice Court before Judge Barbara Wilson on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, police said.

He was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside without bail, police said.
