Man Shot In Head, Critically Injured In Riverhead: Police

2 people who were possibly involved fled, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A. 47-year-old Flanders man was critically injured after being shot in the head in Riverhead Friday night, police said.

He was shot on East Main Street at 6:14 p.m., with two people who were possibly involved fleeing, Riverhead Town police said.

The man who was shot was taken to an area hospital by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and remains in critical condition, police said. Hospital officials asked for anonymity due to the possibility of further violence, police said.

The Riverhead Town Police Department and the New York State Police Department's forensic identification unit are currently processing the scene for additional evidence, police said.
