Man In Stolen Vehicle Crashes Into Police Car On LIE: PD

He led police on a pursuit all the way to the Long Island Expressway after stealing the vehicle in Greenport, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — A Cutchogue man was arrested Saturday after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a police car, authorities said.

According to Southold Town Police, what evolved into a pursuit began at 7:22 a.m. on Route 25 in Greenport. Alexander Ellioff, 35, was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner's consent; fourth-degree grand larceny/auto over $100; second-degree criminal mischief; third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle; and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, police said.

Southold Police officers responded to reports of a vehicle stolen from the parking lot of the Greenport 7-Eleven, police said. An officer located the 2008 Ford E250 traveling west on Route 25 in Cutchogue and performed a traffic stop, police said.

Ellioff initially stopped, then fled, initiating a pursuit, police said. Ellioff led officers west through Riverhead and onto the Long Island Expressway, police said.

Ellioff briefly pulled over for officers near Exit 69 then fled again, striking an occupied Southold Town police vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway, police said.

Ellioff continued a short distance before being apprehended, police said.

Ellioff was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash and will be processed and arraigned upon his release, police said.

The officer in the police car was not injured, police said.
