Man Who Drove Car Into LI Sound Charged With Aggravated DWI: Police

The incident took place Saturday night, police say.

JAMESPORT, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after driving his vehicle into the Long Island Sound Saturday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, a call came in at 10:38 p.m. about a driver heading north on Pier Avenue at Iron Pier Beach in Jamesport and into the Long Island Sound.

Officers responded and found the driver, Jason Perry, 29, of Orient, out of the vehicle and on land, police said. He was determined to be intoxicated, arrested, charged with aggravated DWI, and held for arraignment, police said.

Riverhead Police Department dive team officers responded to assist with removing the vehicle from the water, police said.
