Masked Robber Smashes Rock Through Deli Window, Steals Cash: Police

RIverhead Police are searching for the man who broke into the Osborne Avenue deli early Thursday.

RIVERHEAD, NY - A masked thief smashed a rock through the door of a Riverhead deli early Thursday and made off with cash, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, officers responded at 12:51 a.m. to the Express Deli and Cafe, located at 303 Osborne Avenue, after receiving a report of a commercial burglar alarm activation.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the glass on the front door had been broken out, police said.

It was later determined that entry was made to the establishment and that money had been removed from the register area, police said.

A K-9 unit was deployed and a track led to the area of nearby Lincoln Street; however, no suspect was located, police said.

Surveillance footage shows an unknown male used a large rock to break out the glass and entered and exited via the damaged door, police said.

The male suspect was dressed in dark clothing and disguised his face using a mask. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500 ext. 332.
