Missing Veteran Found Safe: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A missing veteran with impaired vision has been found safe, police said.

Harold W. Nelson, 69, was reported missing from Riverhead on Saturday and was located in the Patchogue area in good health; he has since been returned to the veterans' home in Riverhead, police said.

Nelson left the veterans home in Riverhead Thursday morning and was taken via bus to the Northport Veterans Administration offices for a scheduled appointment; he was in contact with staff until 7 p.m. that evening, but failed to return home to Riverhead, police said.
