Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Flanders Crash

The motorcycle was hit by a car attempting to turn left on County Road 104, police say.

A motorcyclist was hospitalized after a crash in Flanders on Friday afternoon, according to Southampton Town Police.

Police and detectives responded to 500 County Road 104 at about 12:04 p.m. on a report of a motorcycle accident.

Jamie Espana 29, of Westhampton was driving a 1999 Honda Civic south on County Road 104 when he attempting to make a left turn and crashed into a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven Malcolm Smith, 68, heading north on County Road 104, police said.

Smith was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center via Suffolk County Helicopter, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

The road was closed for about an hour while the investigation was completed.

Espana was issued a summons for failing to yield the right of way, police said.

No additional charges are expected to be filed.
